Apparently, I Thought This Was a Good Idea!

Getting back on the bike, and chasing 100 miles before 60.

Apparently, I Thought This Was a Good Idea!

Well, Here's the Thing…

There was a time when I could hop on my bicycle and ride 60 miles. And it wasn't that long ago!

Then a few health issues came along, and my bicycle spent a couple of years collecting dust.

One day, I finally got back on it. No big announcement. No grand plan. I just decided it was time to ride again.

Of course, simply getting back on my bike apparently wasn't ambitious enough.

I decided I wanted to complete a century ride before my 60th birthday.

Yep. That's 100 miles.
On a bicycle.
On purpose.

What on earth am I thinking?!

I remembered how much I loved cycling. The fresh air, the freedom, and the feeling of being out on the road.

I've been gradually building up my distance. Some days feel wonderful. Others remind me that patience might not be such a bad idea.

But one of the things I've enjoyed most is reconnecting with my community.

I see many of the same faces every morning. The school crossing guard, people leaving for work at the same time each day, familiar faces who give me a wave or a friendly honk as they pass.

We may not know each other's names, but somehow we've become part of each other's morning routines.

I love that.

And just when I was getting back into the swing of things, it started raining. And it's been two weeks straight!

So now I'm looking at my bicycle again, wondering how much of that progress I'll have to make up.

Apparently, my century ride training requires a little cooperation from Mother Nature.

And so far, she doesn't seem particularly interested.

Ugh!
